The BMC Middleware Management products have undergone several name and package changes in the past few years.  This situation has created some confusion among customers that are trying to identify their licensed products while equating them to the physical name of the product they have installed.

 

In the case of Middleware Management, the same physical media is used to package several BMC licensed products.  The name BMC TrueSight Middleware and Transaction Monitor is used generically to refer to four of these licensed products (listed below), each of which offers different levels of related functionality.

 

The following licensed products are available under an older license that is known as the “Gold” license.

  • BMC Middleware Management – Performance and Availability
  • BMC Middleware Management – Transaction Monitoring

 

Customers that have migrated to the new “Simplified” license are more familiar with the products by these names.

  • BMC TrueSight Middleware Monitor
  • BMC TrueSight Middleware Transaction Monitor

 

BMC Middleware Management – Performance and Availability and BMC TrueSight Middleware Monitor both provide performance and availability monitoring of your middleware infrastructure and are newer versions of a product formerly known as Q Pasa!.

 

BMC Middleware Management – Transaction Monitoring and BMC TrueSight Middleware Transaction Monitor both provide transaction tracing capabilities in WebSphere MQ and other technologies and are newer versions of a product formerly known as Q Nami!.

 

Note that the “Simplified” products enable more features than the “Gold” license versions including integration to TrueSight Operations Management.  Moving from “Gold” to “Simplified” involves a license migration, so speak to your BMC representative to discuss it.  The details of the differences between the offerings are discussed in the product installation documentation.
