Data Analysis and Report Writing add-on module for Perceive

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...

After establishing a working relationship with BMC as a Development Partner last November we set out upon an ambitious project to produce an add-on module for Perceive that we felt best represented the types of enhancement requests that we have seen and received from customers over the past three years or so. The outcome of this initiative is something we're currently calling "Analyzer for Perceive" (name subject to change) and we're looking for people to evaluate the solution and provide feedback on it.

Rather than building just a data presentation tool (Visualizer and Perceive are visualization tools) we set out to build an analytical processing engine that provides you with the greatest possible flexibility around how you select, analyze and display the performance and capacity information for all of your applications and servers. Specifically Analyzer for Perceive provides simple out-of-the-box solutions for;

- Analyzing, filtering, summarizing and categorizing data.
- Producing advanced charts like data distributions, paretos, correlation and categorizations.
- Advanced report writing capabilities ideal for delivering monthly and quarterly capacity studies with a minimum of effort.
- Flexible charting capabilities with virtually no limitations.

It is difficult to capture the flexibility of Analyzer in such a brief posting, you really need to see it for yourself and we hope that you'll take the time to do a free evaluation - we promise you won't be disappointed.

I am enclosing some screenshots that illustrate just some of the capabilities of Analyzer. If you are interested in a demo or doing an evaluation you can send me a private message through Devcon or send me an e-mail directly to perry@cfsolutions-inc.com.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,

Perry.

RE: Data Analysis and Report Writing add-on module for Perce

Analyzer is a must have for any BMC customer utilizing Perform.  I  have been waiting for functionality like this from Perform for more than 5 years now, it's exactly what I wanted from the product.

Analyzer has:

- greatly increased my productivity by automating routine analysis duties. It has dramatically reduced my use of supplemental tools, e.g. MS-Excel.
- seamlessly integrated with my existing Perceive installation, many Perceive extensions, and non-BMC data sources.
- allowed me to identify the servers I must concentrate on via a customized rule-set that is applied to all servers in my environment
- standardized my reporting techniques
- one-button reporting for my critical applications providing a high quality, standardized, and portable report suitable for management and the technical support groups.
- with the recent addition of the Publisher for Perceiver add-on, I will be able to schedule the production and distribution of these reports.

My management has been extremely pleased by our increased ability to communicate to the end-user community (i.e. application owners, admins, managers, ...) without an increase in staffing levels.

In my opinion, 80% of capacity analysis is able to be automated, the other 20% requires our individual expertise. By automating 80% of the mundane and routine tasks, I have significantly more time to focus on the more important 20% (actual data analysis and capacity planning) and, what's more, analyzer is helping me to do a better and more thorough job on the other 20%.

That's really just the report writing capabilities, I can't wait to leverage the interactive data analysis capabilities (which are pretty substantial) to their full potential.

Analyzer is now my first tool of choice.

Perry has e-mailed me and said that there is a great deal of interest in the report I created.  Please find a copy attached.  If there is sufficient interest, I will work with Perry to create a streamlined version of the report.

Should we move this to a thread in the Computer & Financial Solutions Partner forum?
