Discovering Unix Applications through XML

Hi,

We currently have a couple of linux servers that are locked down and want to try to do discovery on them. We are looking at doing SNMP discovery to create the actual CI itself, but since we can't access the server using SSH were looking at modifying the XML file for UAD. On these servers, there are applications that the support is requesting to have in the CMDB. The information that they want to capture is just the applcation and the version that it is running. They have provided me with the linux command that we use to get the version and application and can be run from any other server as it reading from a web page that they publish. Do you know if there is a way that we can run this command through the XML and have it map to the locked down CI even when we run it on a different server than the locked down one?

In the ADDM, how to view all the properties of a CI?

in a view,You can right-click to view the properties of CI, but it is not complete,how to view all the properties and values of a CI?

Power components of a server

Can ADDM scan for power on a server? Things like the power component that contains the voltage information, etc. I thought it would be able to pick that up in asset inventory and provide like an attribute to a CI stating voltage information.

TD server logs cleared after reboot of server

I have four Windows servers, each currently running TD 1.6.02. After the most recent set of Microsoft hotfixes were applied, each server was rebooted. After the reboots, I noticed that the Server Logs for each TD server were empty.

Has anyone else noticed this before?

Updating ADDM 7.5.01 to 7.5.01.01

Hi everybody!!

I´ve update ADDM 7.5.01 to 7.5.01.01, but when i start the aplication, it doesn´t have any CI, and it is empty, my discovery task and views are dissapeared

I suposse that the update has delete the ADDM datastore and my configuration options, and my question is if we have a chance to recover the anterior datastore or we have to do another complete discovery again

Does ADDM require a 32-bit database?

ADDM Enthusiasts,

In the ADDM documentation it is clear that a 32-bit Windows 2003 operating system is required (and I already asked here if 64-bit OS could work - sadly no.) But I had a person experienced with BMC products tell me that the discovery datastore for ADDM also needs to be on a 32-bit database. I had been intending to use Oracle on 64-bit AIX for the ADDM datastore.

Is that possible? Or is a 32-bit database the only option? Why should there be any difference in a SQL database just based on it's execution environment?

One of our customers has is planning to install two BMC Discovery 1.6.003 instances, one of them would be used only to discover SNMP network devices. Due to a security policy and a specific network architecture, is not possible to discover asset and network devices from the same Discovery instance, SNMP access is restricted to particular network.

Unfortunately, "out of the box modularization" is not an implemented feature in BMC Discovery..... but as I understand, one Discovery instance will store computer systems, then will have at least one MAC address (Lan Endpoint) per computer system. The other Discovery instance will have network related info as switch's port/mac data. I'm wondering if relationships between network devices and computer systems can be completed on the CMDB side.

Any similar experiences out there?

Do anyone has a BMC.IMPORT.TOPO dataset to share in order to see how topology relationships are built?

BMC Topology Discovery 1.6 don't normalize Software Name with DSL, why?

Which is the correct procedure to allow at topology discovery to normalize the software name like as DSL entries?

I see that SW discovered from topology, a lot of time have similar name (not the same):

Windows Server 2003

Windows (R) Server 2003

Windows Server 2003(R)

I need, to use correctly Asset Management (Licences and Contracts), that all this software to be with the same name.

It is indispensable for Licences counting.

How can I correct this problem?
