Which Login Credentials Can I Use?

BMC Communities login (username and password) information is separate from login credentials used for SABA, BMC.com registration and Support.

Custom Avatar or Profile Image?

With BMC Communities you can select both a custom profile image and an avatar for your account.

CUSTOM PROFILE IMAGE

Browse to your profile (click on your username in the top left).
In the "Actions" box on the right click on "Edit Profile."
Scroll down to the box for "Your Image" and browse to your hard drive to select an image file to use for your profile.
- Note: all profile images will be resized to 320 pixels wide. For best results, choose an image that is already close to that size.
- The supported file types are:
  - BMP
  - GIF
  - JPEG
  - JPG
  - PJPEG
  - PNG
  - WBMP
Please allow for 24-48 hours (excluding holidays and weekends) to process your request.

SELECTING AN AVATAR OR UPLOADING YOUR OWN

Browse to your profile (click on your username in the top left).
In the "Actions" box on the right click on "Change Avatar."
We offer a wide selection of avatars that you can instantly use. Select any avatar by clicking on it and then browsing down and clicking on "Save Settings" (located beneath available avatars on the bottom left).
For uploading your own:
- Scroll down to "Upload Avatar"
- Browse to your hard drive and select the image file you want to use as your avatar.

file size is not matching

I am at Beijing, China office. Download speed is only about 50KB.

When I downloaded some big file, like 200+ MB. it failed manny times. I got ''file size is not matching" error in download manager(DownThemAll! for Firefox)

But, small files are ok for downloading.

I'm not sure if this web site have something wrong.

Why Isn't My Document Appearing?

Once a document is submitted, it enters the approval queue of the moderator of that community/sub-community. Processing time normally takes 24-48 hours for a document to be reviewed. Your document will appear upon approval from the moderator.

In the event your document is rejected and additional edits are requested, you will receive an e-mail and find private comments from the moderator at the bottom of the document. Make any necessary changes and re-submit your document. If you have any questions on the requested edits or why your document was rejected, you can contact the moderator via a private message.

Access to Partner Forums ITSM

I have a partner login, and I can see partner forums, but it seems I am missing access to for example the SRM partner forum. They do not appear in the list of forums but I am told they are there.

Can I change this myself or would you have to change my profile?

Today when logging in to BMC DN I find I have lost my ability to view private forums (previously enabled through my partner status)

We also have an issue in being unable to access the DN from within our company network due to some issue with a proxy server in our environment.

The second issue has been logged with BMC support but has not been resolved and the feedback is it won't be resolved any time soon. The first issue only came up today.

Should we post such problems as questions in a forum here or log a Support case through the traditional method??

How can I receive notification when messages are posted?

Navigate to the message on which to receive notifications.
Click Receive email notifications in the Actions pane.

You can also watch an entire forum by clicking Receive email notifications in the Actions pane on the Discussions tab.

Messages that you post are watched by default. You can turn this feature on or off by clicking Your Stuff > Profile > Edit Preferences. Click Yes or No next to Always subscribe via email to threads I create.

All registered users can post content on the BMCDN. Where and what you can post depends on your permission level.

Posting Documents

All documents must be approved by the site approver and community approver before being published. Members receive 10 status points for posting documents.

Register and log in.
From the top menu, click New > Document.
Choose the community in which to post your document.
Give the document a title.
Type at least a one- or two-sentence description.
[Optional] Change the collaboration settings (who can edit your document and who must approve the document before publication).
[Optional] Add tags to your document to allow easier searching.
[Optional] Click Save and Continue to save the document and continue editing.
Click Submit for Approval to send your document to the site and community approvers for final approval before publishing.

Posting Discussions

Members receive one status point for posting new discussion topics, five points for replying with Helpful answers, and 10 points for replying with Correct answers.

Register and log in.
From the top menu, click New > Discussion.
Choose the community in which to post your discussion.
Click Create New Discussion.
Type a subject for your topic.
Click Mark your thread as a Question if your topic is a question and you intend to give status points for Helpful and Correct answers.
Type your topic.
If you marked your thread as a question, after you receive replies, be sure to award status points for Helpful and Correct answers. Simply click the appropriate button in the reply to mark.
Helpful answer
You can mark multiple replies as Helpful and one answer as Correct.

I'd like to ask how can I know all posts where I've taken part in and, if applicable, how many points I achieved.

Sometimes it's difficult to know where you've replied, history doesn't shows you "all history", only the last few days.

Also, it would be nice to order the posts by the last person who replied.

How do I register for BMC Communities?

To register and explore BMC Communities, please follow these instructions:

Create a BMC Communities login at http://communities.bmc.com/communities/create-account.jspa.

NOTE: User names must not contain spaces or the characters , / ? & #, and passwords must contain at least six alphanumeric characters.
Complete all required fields on the Create New User Account screen.
Be sure to select the correct choice in the BMC Software Relationship menu to ensure access to the proper forums and documents.
If you want to receive important notices and other information of value, check Yes next to I allow BMC Software to send email to me.
After you have read the site terms and conditions and checked the box that you agree to these terms and conditions, click the Create Account button at the bottom of the registration screen.

NOTE: If the registration form redisplays, verify that all required fields have been completed correctly and that the last two questions are marked Yes. Once you have completed all the fields, click the Create Account button again to resubmit your registration form.
Please ensure that you "whitelist" email from developer.bmc.com. The procedure for whitelisting varies by email software and service provider. For Outlook, please use the following instructions:
A. Open the Actions->Junk E-mail->Junk E-mail Options menu.
B. Select the Safe Senders tab and click the Add button.
C. Type @developer.bmc.com and click OK twice.
After registering, you receive an email message to confirm registration. Click the link provided in the email.

BMC Product Documentation now secured

BMC has taken steps to secure its product documentation by requiring users (customers and partners) to have a valid BMC Support Contract to view product documentation that resides on the BMC Support website. To view the documentation, you must have a valid BMC Support user id and password.

This new policy means that when you click on a "View the document" link on the BMCDN, you are then prompted for a Support ID and password. Documents that are attached rather than linked do not require credentials (though some require that you accept a license agreement).

If you have a support contract, you can register for your UID and PW on the Support site.

You can also view FAQs about the new policy.

Accessing Product Documentation contains more information about this policy.

Employees can also register for access. If you need help, send a private message to Karen Farrell. (Click the Karen Farrell profile link on the left, then click Send private message in the Actions pane.)

What type of topics are appropriate for BMCDN?

It seems that there are a number of BMCDN posts that, IMHO, are obviously regarding issues that should be raised to Customer Support. I think it would be beneficial to have some clear guidelines as to what types of questions are appropriate for BMCDN vs. questions that should go to support. For example...anything that has to do with problems or errors installing a product seems like it would be best handled by support. It is important that install issues be tracked by Customer Support to do trend analysis and to escalate issues the engineering where appropriate. It certainly would be beneficial to report back to BMCDN to help provide visibility of issues.

I can't, off hand, think of other examples. It may be difficult to come up with a definitive list, as I realize that there is overlap. But I thought this topic maybe a good discussion point.

An Unauthorized Message can result from any of the following scenarios:

If you have just registered for the site and requested access to a permission group (SPP or BMC Employee access, for example), remember that there is a 24-48 hour turnaround in processing your request (not including weekends and holidays.)
If you are accessing BMC Communities from an external link (e-mail, etc.), you may need to login before viewing the content that you are looking for.
If you have previously received a verification email from us indicating you now have access to a permission group, but you still get an unauthorized message for content you believe you should be able to see, please contact us.

BMCDN Problems with Prior/Next Buttons?

Hia,

Since some days ago, I'm experiencing problems while reviewing the BMCDN Recent Content.

I can only see the first 100 posts (if selecting 50 per page). The rest, I'm not able to access to them, because Next button appears disabled.

If I reduce the number of entries per page, the problem also appears.

Anyone has detected also this strange behaviour?

Posting Images - Fail to show up due to lack of the height/value property on the img tag

Using both IE and Firefox to post .png files. They were being posted however they were not rendering properly. The html viewed showed the height value on the image was being left out. Manually added and posted, fixed my issue.

I am a web developer using ARS as my back end. We use Java, so I am attempting to do this with the Java API. What I'm trying to do is submit an attachment with a support request ticket. We have developed our own web pages to do ticket submission but I can't seem to locate any information on how to submit an attachment with the rest of the information. So, can anybody tell me where would be the best place to submit this question to get a speedy and effective response? All I'm looking for is some documentation on how to implement this functionality in my own JSP.

Marking a Topic as a Question--or Not

Topics in the discussion areas are marked as questions by default.

If your topic is not a question, and you do not require an answer, you can clear the Mark this thread as a question check box so that the topic is not marked as a question.

After you post your topic (click Post Message), you have 15 minutes to change it from a question to a non-question or from a non-question to a question. To change the setting, simply click on your posted topic, and click the un-mark this thread as a question or mark this thread as a question link.

Marking a Question as Answered, Part I

You can mark a question as answered as soon as you post the topic.

However, most of the time, you mark your topic as answered after receiving a satisfactory response to your question. As long as the question is still marked unanswered, each time you log in and click on your topic, you have the option to mark it as answered. (See Figure3.)

Marking an Answer as Helpful or Correct

After another member responds to your question, you can mark the response as Helpful or Correct. Helpful means that the response helped you find the answer to the question. Correct means that the response is the answer to the question.

When you mark a response as Helpful, the member who posted the response receives five status points. When you mark an answer as Correct, the member receives 10 status points.

You might receive multiple responses to your question. You can mark multiple responses as Helpful. However, you can only mark one response as Correct. Even after you mark a correct response, you can continue to receive more responses and mark them as Helpful.

Mark an answer as helpful or correct by clicking the Helpful Anwser or Correct Answer buttons inside the response.

If you mark the answer as Helpful, the question changes to Possibly Answered, and you will have the opportunity to also mark the question as answered. If you mark the question as Correct, the question state changes to Answered.

Marking a Question as Answered, Part II

Generally, once you have received a correct response, your question has been answered. Once your question is answered to your satisfaction, click the answered link above the topic. (See Figure 3.)

Note: Marking a response as Helpful does not automatically change the question state to Answered. (Marking it as Correct does.) If you find the answer to your question outside of the forum, you can also mark your question as answered. Help other members by replying to your own topic with the answer. You can't mark your own response as Helpful or Correct, but you will help educate others in the online community.

Even after you mark your question as answered, you can still receive responses and mark those responses as Helpful or Correct.

Viewing your Discussion and Question History

You can view a complete list of all the topics you have marked as questions. The list is categorized into all of the discussions you have started and all of your open questions. You can click on the topic title to navigate directly to the topic and take any available action on the topic (such as marking a question as answered or an answer as Helpful or Correct.)

To view your discussion history or open questions, click on Your Stuff > Discussions or Your Stuff > Open Questions on the top menu. (You must be logged in.)

How do I gain recogition in the forums?

You gain recognition on the BMC Software Developer Network (BMCDN) by posting and answering questions in the forums. You receive one point for posting a topic or reply. When your answers are marked as Helpful or Correct, you receive extra points: five points for every answer marked as Helpful and 10 points for every answer marked as Correct. You'll want to help others by marking your posts as questions so when someone answers your question, he or she receives the extra status points.

You start out as a Participant with 0 - 30 points and one star.
With 31 - 150 points you become an Enthusiast with two stars.
HotShots have 151 - 500 points and three stars.
Experts have 501 - 2500 points and four stars.
Masters have 2501 - 5000 points and five stars.
Gurus have 5001 - 10,000 points and six stars.

The point system works as described in BMCDN Updates Top Participants Point System.
