Hi,

Normally IBM AIX 5.3 getting discovered using SNMP v1 and i recommned you to use SNMP V1 to discover these boxes. If you get same error then can you check using SNMP are you able to get network port information?

I understand SSH over telnet, but for this discovery, I only want to use SNMP.

If I use SNMP v2, it doesn't find any SNMP agents

Hi,

In LPAR enviornment, by default communication is supported only using SSH menthod, TD supports both methods( SSH and telnet), But you will be able to discover the LPAR using telnet method only if telnet is supported and you able to fire LPAR commands on HMC.

I'm using Topology v1.6.

I've only used SNMP so far... does the Virtural discovery require SSH credentials?

What version of TD are you using?

Have you tried performing a Virtual System discovery using the Lpar for AIX selection?

We recently setup Topology Discovery and I started doing small tests in our UAT area.

I setup to discover the segment with SNMP only, and the only errors I received were for IBM AIX p6 systems (with LPars)

It discovered VMWare, Windows, Linux but when it hit AIX it gave the following:

Discovery: Exploration: sttvduu1 (172.28.1.124): "SNMP": Error - Unable to achieve exploration. Network Port missing (LAN/WAN). Skipping exploration.

I has an admin try it manually from another system... and he got:

[root@mrosalp1 ~]# /usr/bin/snmpget -v 1 -c XXXXXYYYY sttvduu1 system.sysDescr.0 SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: IBM PowerPC CHRP Computer Machine Type: 0x0800004c Processor id: 00C75A704C00 Base Operating System Runtime AIX version: 05.03.0007.0000 TCP/IP Client Support version: 05.03.0007.0001

SNMP is up and running, community string is OK ... no special port... and the Topology server and the AIX are on the same segment, so no firewalls either.

Any suggestions
